Biography - Thomas F. Doherty
Thomas Doherty is an associate of Helle Consulting, a manufacturing consulting firm specializing in Lean manufacturing, ERP, JIT and TQM. He has developed and conducted many public and in-house educational workshops related to these subjects and others. Tom is dedicated to improving manufacturing productivity, ERP implementation Total Quality Management, Just-In-Time, and process improvement for companies that want to be significant competitors.
Consulting work includes project management for many ERP implementations He has participated in an ERP conferences in Europe for a multi-national client. Mr. Doherty's experience includes Kaizen task forces, group technology, and process improvement with highly repetitive, job shop environments and process companies. The Lean and quality experience includes process improvement at a major film manufacturer, office furniture manufacturers, personal care products company, a major firearms producer, and an aerospace component manufacturer. These companies range in size from the Fortune 500 to family run companies. These programs have directed many manufacturing firms through successful systemized and sustained continuous process improvement with significant savings. A recent Lean project for a midsize processing company in the Midwest introduced 1.6 million savings in six weeks. He has conducted education for Worcester Polytechnic Institute, APICS organizations, SME and ASQ (American Society for Quality).
Prior to consulting Tom has served as Vice President of Total Quality for a large manufacturer. He has been a member of senior management at Titeflex Corporation and was responsible for the MRP II project. In addition, he was Planning/Inventory Control Manager and Distribution Manager for Acme/Chaston. He has also had materials management experience at Reynolds Aluminum Metals Company. As a Senior Project Engineer, he was responsible for material handling projects, machinery installation, initiation of new processes and the layout and relocation of a plant and warehouse to a new installation
He graduated from Lehigh University with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and has a degree in Education from Springfield College.
Mr. Doherty has CPIM certification from APICS and is a certified United States government consultant. He has been a frequent speaker at APICS events and has given frequent talks to AWI, HP Manufacturing Productivity Users Conference and other National groups. His contribution to industry has been recognized by Who's Who of Business Management and articles in the national Industrial Engineering Magazine
